Global Film Studio – The Story

When veteran film maestro Bruno Pischiutta and film producer Daria Trifu decided to open Global Film Studio in 2011, they wanted to create one of the best and more profitable Film Studios in the world: a factory of films and media related enterprises. The two founders put together all they had (about $18M). at that point in time, the Film Studio existed only in their minds; a Film Studio is the factory where films are green-lighted and produced. 

Their tasks were to:

1. Decide what kind of films to green-light; 

2. Create the necessary infrastructure to produce them in high quality and at the minimum cost possible.

The first point was solved early on. The founders’ deep knowledge of the film business indicated that what was missing in the market was an organized entity dedicated to the production and distribution of nonviolent films. This unique niche was immediately adopted by Global Film Studio and it was decided to produce only high quality, main stream nonviolent movies.

Solving the second point and creating the necessary infrastructure took ten years of very hard work. The principals made operative decisions very similar to those of Bezos when he started Amazon: in particular, they chose not to produce easy films but to focus all their work in the infrastructure necessary to create the Studio. Everything they did, every dollar they spent in the last ten years, had the sole target of creating a strong and unique infrastructure of the Studio, that would assure the quality and the profitability of the future products. 

It was decided that all the films will be in English language; their production will be made in-house, and the shootings will take place in countries where where don’t not exist film unions and the cost of production would be a fraction of that in Canada or in the USA.  It was further decided that when Global Film Studio will produce a feature film, it will also produce an accompanying feature documentary, The Making of…, which would  then be marketed and released as a self-standing product.  

A slate of ten features film was the first target. Pischiutta wrote the screenplays for those films and he will also direct and executive produce them; Trifu will be the other executive producer and the producer of the films. They will accept a minimal compensation for their work considering that they are also the biggest shareholders of the Company.

Bruno Pischiutta is one of the last great Italian directors of his generation and the only one who has lived in America for almost forty years. During his film career, he has created and developed numerous feature films in Europe, America, Africa and Asia, and has won major awards in several countries.

Daria Trifu (LinkedIn Profile) is a Canadian film producer and media entrepreneur. Born in Romania, she moved to Canada in 1999. In Toronto, she studied film at the International Film Workshops taught by Bruno Pischiutta. Subsequently, she was hired by Pischiutta’s then production company, Toronto Pictures. In 2003, she opened her first film company, Adhara Properties, that financed and produced the critically acclaimed feature film Punctured Hope.  

To guarantee the necessary cast for the films of Global Film Studio, over 4,000 English speaking actors were auditioned and the Company opened its own talent agency, the Global Film Actors Agency. Contracts of representations were signed with the best 50 of those actors; choices were made by always keeping in mind the roles that were necessary to fulfill in the films of the Company’s slate. 

Global Film Actors Agency applies the Hollywood system of the Studios used in the 50s to create Stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and many others. 

Several of the chosen actors are very young and without valid experience; before hiring them on set, they are being trained – free of charge – by Bruno Pischiutta via one to one Skype sessions spread over several months. Furthermore, to keep the actors and principal crew’s fees reasonable, some shares of the Company are issued to them.

In order to promote and advertise the actors, the films and all that the Company does, while avoiding the high cost of producing expensive brochures and cheap printed materials, it was decided to create an in-house marketing tool. The Company has its own publication, the annual arts, entertainment and business magazine called DARIA!. The magazine was founded by Daria Trifu who is also its Editor-in-Chief. 

DARIA! is the only magazine that has a black cover while the actual cover is placed on the inside. The look of DARIA! combines that of Vanity Fair and of National Geographic. The publication is available online, and in some cases, it is also printed and distributed at high class events around the world such as: Monte Carlo (Jockey Club during the F1 event), in New York City (The Friars Club), in Montreal (International Film Festival), in Los Angeles (The Fairmont Hotel during The American Film Market), in Cannes (during the Cannes Film Festival) and more.

In 2012, the Global Nonviolent Film Festival is the most important and renown nonviolent film festival in the world was created by Global Film Studio.

My father, Roger Paradiso, made an award-winning film called The Lost Village, that premiered at Cinema Village in 2018. The film appears on the newest streaming platform on the block, Global Cinema Online. Another film of Roger’s, The Queen of Camelot, appeared in the “Global Non-violent Film Festival,” which only accepts documentaries and feature films that do not contain violence. This film, about Jackie Kennedy and her account of the JFK “Camelot” era, also won an award. It will also be available in June on the Global Cinema Online streaming platform.

After Roger won the Global Nonviolent Film Festival award, he got to know Bruno and Daria who run the festival and also Global Cinema Online. He likes them and what they are doing very much. I had the pleasure of interviewing Daria Trifu, the executive producer and president of Global Film Studio, and Bruno Pischiutta, film director, and chairman of the board of Global Film Studio.

Why are you, Daria, and Bruno, interested in a movie about Greenwich Village called The Lost Village by Roger Paradiso?

Roger first submitted The Lost Village to our festival, the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, and our selection committee held it in high regard. The film has the proper cinematic quality to be included in the festival, and its subject is extremely important for the viewers because Greenwich Village is one of the many souls of New York City and is not spoken about enough. The historic perspective in which it is written is also very interesting because it depicts an important moment of transition for the Village, and shows its strength and weakness. Roger Paradiso is a director who was already awarded at our festival and is known by our viewers. The Lost Village in an important part of Roger’s filmography.

Since the film was shown originally, just before the pandemic, we have seen huge changes in Greenwich Village. What has changed in your film business, both as a film festival and now as a streamer online?

The pandemic presents an enormous difficulty for producing films. In particular, we make English-speaking films, but the set for our next movie is located in Greece. Our actors are primarily from the USA and the UK. The production entails that cast and crew have to travel. During the pandemic, international travel has been very difficult and, in some cases, even impossible. Furthermore, the danger of putting the cast and crew on the set together could have created a contagious situation where Covid could have been spread. Considering those two big difficulties we decided to wait, and to start production when the pandemic will be under control and international travel will be easier. This created a one-year window that gave us the opportunity to take care and realize another one of our projects that had been planned from some time; it was time to make the streaming channel Global Cinema Online a reality.

Everything went well, and we arrived to launch Global Cinema Online this past April. This pay-per-view streaming channel is available worldwide and, in keeping with our company’s brand, it offers viewers nonviolent visual content. The web address is http://www.globalcinema.online.

The primary source of our content is the Global Nonviolent Film Festival (in business for ten years), where we have direct access to films that don’t contain gratuitous violence and are rich in quality and topical importance. How do you think streaming will affect movie theaters?

 It is already a fact that streaming is taking a part of the theater audience. This is happening for several reasons: a lot of viewers prefer to watch a film in the privacy of their home, and they often do binge-watching, something that is not possible in the cinema. It is a new phenomenon that the movie industry has to acknowledge. It is also, however, another source of distribution and income for production companies and filmmakers that is to be regarded with much interest.

What kind of market do you see your new Global Cinema Online fitting into, with all the big streamers like Netflix and smaller streamers like IFC, Ovid, Criterion Channel, Sundance etc.?

We are not looking to fit in, we are looking to stand out! The concept of gratuitous sex and violence has always been part of a legend that these two elements are the most profitable in film production. It is just a legend because the numbers tell us that the films that make more money are films for the entire family, and sex and violence are just some sort of specialty elements.

When, just recently, Netflix showcased the film Cuties, that has sexual content that’s on the edge, more than 100,000 people left Netflix. They probably did so, also, because some of them did not want their kids to be exposed to this film in their households. This clearly tells us that there is a big necessity for the viewers to look for and find streaming channels that have the niche that they like. We believe that in every country there is a category of people who wish to see films without gratuitous violence.

How can Villagers who love movies find you on the internet, and how much does it cost?

It is simple, and our site is very user-friendly. Viewers from all over the world, without restrictions, can find us on the web at http://www.globalcinema.online. The site is accessible on all computers and mobile devices connected to the internet. In addition to the custom categories and genres, the films are organized by continent: European Cinema, North American Cinema, Asian Cinema, South American Cinema, African Cinema, and Australian Cinema. 

Our channel works on a pay-per-view basis where the viewers have the possibility to choose the films they want to watch and pay for them in either of two ways: renting a title will give them 24 hours time to watch it, while buying a title will give them an unlimited time to watch it as long as the film is on our channel. The Making of Global Cinema Online: An Achievement to Be Proud Of

In my long life, I have been privileged and lucky to reach several achievements: some of my performances and movies got important awards and I had the opportunity to work often with excellent colleagues and artists. What I did in the film industry gave me great satisfactions; most of it was regarding the writing of screenplays, the making of films and film companies. Now, in this very bad period of pandemic, a time when it is almost impossible to produce films and have a normal working activity, I’ve been very lucky again for achieving something that, just a short time ago, was highly improbable: I am talking about Global Cinema Online, an OTT (Over The Top) media streaming channel that, for the first time changes ways and terms used in the film industry and gives some new and necessary choices to viewers and filmmakers everywhere.

Before analyzing certain aspects of Global Cinema Online, I wish to point out that my role in the making of this OTT streaming channel for films was a small one, in the same way that my role in creating the Global Nonviolent Film Festival – the most important and renown nonviolent film festival in the world – was a small one too: it is true that Daria Trifu and I had the idea to create the Festival and the Global Cinema Online streaming channel, but Daria is the real creator and operator of both these two divisions of our company. 

I’m the chairman of Global Film Studio and Daria is the president of the company. My principal jobs are deciding what products we put in production and the actors we contract with our Agency, as well as arranging the financing for the company. Besides that, I write most of the screenplays and I direct most of the films we make. Daria’s jobs are taking care of all what is necessary from the administrative point of view to run the company. She produces and executive produce most of our film products, designs, writes (most of the content), creates and publishes the annual arts, entertainment and business magazine DARIA! (Established in 2005), runs the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, and now runs Global Cinema Online, this new OTT streaming pay-per-view channel for nonviolent films.

Since the Covid time started – in March of last year – and until today, I worked in film financing and in preparing our next productions; Daria worked on the making of Global Cinema Online, we both worked on DARIA! magazine, and on organizing and hosting the Festival that will celebrate its 10th annual edition from September 23 to October 3 this year. In this period, I was privileged to be able to follow, day by day, Daria’s difficult work in making the streaming channel, and to consult her on a continuous basis about the choices and decisions that were essential in bringing Global Cinema Online to reality. 

Global Cinema Online is user friendly and the films are organized by continent: European Cinema, North American Cinema, Asian Cinema, South American Cinema, African Cinema, and Australian Cinema.

For the first time in the history of the world’s film industry, two facts become a reality:

  • It is common knowledge that many people, especially in Canada and in Europe, are viewing less and less films because the catalogs of the existing streaming services contain many films with gratuitous violence, low quality films and films that don’t provoke thought but just empty entertainment. Starting on April 15, English speaking viewers in all corners of the world will be able – for the first time – to choose films, documentaries, animation films, docudramas, TV series, music videos and films made by women from a catalog of high quality nonviolent products. As a matter of fact, these films were previously selected at the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, they don’t contain gratuitous violence, and they have the quality and topical importance required at our Festival;
  • From now on, every film that will be selected at the Global Nonviolent Film Festival will be proposed worldwide distribution with very favorable financial terms trough our streaming pay-per-view channel Global Cinema Online.

I’m proud of the little role I played in making Global Cinema Online a reality, and we all should be very grateful to Daria Trifu for this achievement, because the two facts above are game changers.

The first fact betters the experience of the intelligent viewers who wish to see films that give them something from an emotional point of view, or that give them possibilities to know more and to open their mental horizon. 

The films shown on Global Cinema Online may have acts of violence, if they are essential to the plot. What we are against is the gratuitous violence in film, not because we believe that everybody who watches a violent film will commit some act of violence in real life, but we have to think that, when a violent film is seen by a multitude of people, there can be some individuals who are particularly influenceable and already on the edge. It is a known fact that, when a big TV Network airs a film about suicide, the number of real suicides increases. The same of what we think about violence we think about sensuality and scenes with sexual content. The films shown on Global Cinema Online can contain sensual scenes and can deal with a subject on the edge, but every scene in the film, every visual part should be necessary to the plot, nothing should be there for commercial purposes only.

The second fact is extremely new in the industry and a big help for the filmmakers; it makes it more simple for filmmakers to become universally recognized and financially independent. If their film is selected at our Festival – the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, it will receive a non-exclusive and profitable proposal of worldwide distribution through Global Cinema Online.

I believe that Global Cinema Online is on the right path in the present time. The channel will be born in few days and it will grow in time because it gives something that the viewers want. There are older and very big streaming channels like Netflix, Hulu, Apple and Amazon out there, but they don’t exclude violence, as we do. I believe that a lot of people will love the movies we show and a lot of viewers will watch our films. I’m proud of this; even if my role in the making of Global Cinema Online was small, I believe that the fact that I cooperated in bringing it live is one of the biggest achievement of my life.

Emerging British Actress Stephanie Tripp Signs Contract of Representation With Global Film Actors Agency

HOLLYWOOD, California — March 7, 2021 — British actress Stephanie Tripp will join young Lithuanian Star Greta Goldling, who was featured on the official poster of the 2020 edition of the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, and transgender Filipina actress Sophia Abella, in the cast of the upcoming feature film Spa, written and directed by veteran film auteur Bruno Pischiutta.

The film, to be shot part in London and part in a touristic resort located by the Aegean Sea in Greece, is Pischiutta’s most anticipated film, and it is expected to be his greatest directing performance since Punctured Hope, the critically acclaimed movie on women’s genital mutilation shot in Africa and qualified for nomination consideration at the Academy Awards® in 2010.

Spa is not a violent film; it has, however, a pushed sexual content that is definitely accentuating its dramatic ending.

Spa will be a landmark in movie history because, as Francis Ford Coppola, Pischiutta is not afraid of risk. In this film, he makes an artistic directorial choice about the casting and is organizing a fabulous and priceless ensemble of talent that remembers the one of Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider.

For Global Film Studio, Spa will be produced by Daria Trifu, who previously produced Punctured Hope with a US $5.8 million budget and +200 cast and crew members.

Spa will be released worldwide by Global Cinema Online, the company’s pay-per-view streaming service for nonviolent films and documentaries (its own ‘Nonviolent Netflix’).

Global Film Studio is financing Spa and its new streaming venture Global Cinema Online through a Pre-IPO Private Placement issued last month.

The total to be raised is US $21.5 million. The PPM is structured to accept subscriptions from institutional investors who have the resources to make large investments, as well as from high net worth individuals who wish to explore investing in media by starting with small figures.

Via this Pre-IPO Private Placement it is now possible to subscribe for Common shares of the Company at US $8.6 per share, from a minimum of US $8,600 per one Unit of 1,000 shares. Global Nonviolent Film Festival Unveils Its Official Poster for 2021

February 7, 2021 — Hollywood, California — Global Nonviolent Film Festival unveils the official poster for its 10th annual edition that takes place this year from September 23 to October 3.

The poster is created on a concept by film director Bruno Pischiutta, and it features actress Kelly Dalston. It is designed and made by Daria Trifu.

The poster’s composition depicts the reality that the lockdowns created for people from all corners of the world: home entertainment is an essential component of every-day life, and watching films on-line is the new norm.

Filmmakers should know that Global Nonviolent Film Festival is open for submissions. The ‘Early Deadline’ to submit a narrative film, documentary or music video is February 25th.

All films selected to participate at the Festival are showcased on the event’s streaming channel from September 23 to October 3, while they compete for awards and recognition. In addition, the selected narrative films and documentaries are guaranteed a distribution contract proposal from Global Cinema Online. 

Global Cinema Online, scheduled to be launched by Global Film Studio in April, is a pay-per-view streaming platform for nonviolent films and documentaries that is well positioned to take a share of the ever growing video on demand market. It aims to become a notable competitor to the likes of Netflix and Hulu.

International Film Workshops

At this time, I am teaching my International Film Workshops via Skype to actresses Angytta Cherrier from Balikpapan, Indonesia, Luna Avelar from Dallas Texas (USA), and Kelly Dalston from London, England.

Many of you know that I am also a teacher and that I have been teaching my International Film Workshops in Acting, Writing, Directing, and Producing from over 30 years to students from many countries of the world, both at physical locations and virtually.

My Workshops entail 1-hour long sessions for a total of about 30 hours. I offer my program free of charge to talents I choose and who I believe can have a serious career in film. When I made my latest feature film in Ghana, I trained all the African cast and crew (about 150 people in total) in my Workshops, prior to hiring them on my set. This initiative gave birth to the ‘Toronto Pictures Film Academy of Ghana’ that I founded together with Daria Trifu and our African screen-writer. The Academy went on to operate for many year after the film was made. Our company financed the Academy for few years, until it became self-sufficient by producing films and TV shows with the students it continued to train in the art of film. I am proud to say that some of the talent trained at our Academy went on to become big celebrities in Africa, have built very successful careers (both national and international), and have also won at the African Academy Awards.

I continue to conduct my Workshops virtually with students that I select (at no cost). Like everyone before them, if they complete the Workshops successfully, they receive a Diploma that I sign and certify.

Here is a little history about some of the Workshops I held and organized with my company:

In early 2000, I held my International Film Workshops program in Toronto, Canada, for three consecutive years. Daria Trifu was a student in the class of 2000; following the program she went on to become a successful film producer and, today, she is the President of Global Film Studio.

In 2005, together with Daria, I created a film training program in West Africa. As I wrote in my intro above, we opened the ‘Toronto Pictures Film Academy of Ghana’ and financed it for over two years. In the first year, 150 young and talented filmmakers were trained with hundreds more in the years that followed. The Academy became self-sufficient by producing in-house films that were  subsequently sold worldwide. Over 70 percent of all the talents trained at the Academy have been employed by production companies, TV stations and radio networks in West Africa and beyond.

Some of the notable young talents who participated in the Workshops over the years and who went on to follow successful careers include actors Christina Macris, Ruffy Quansah, Belinda Siamey, Andrei Neamtu, Sophia Gilberto and Denisa Barvon.

Between 2012 and 2014, together with Daria, I organized the International Film Workshops program in Brasov, Romania.

The Workshops program in Romania was so successful that it actually attracted participants from several countries such as Germany, Serbia, Russia, South Africa, Canada, Cuba and even from the United States. The Workshops were filmed and the shooting amounts to over 30 hours of footage.

At present, I am teaching the Workshops on a one-to-one basis to special film talents who are on their way to stardom. I may be available to hold public workshops on request.

RETROSPECTIVE (working title): A 96 minutes feature documentary.

The tentative date for the shootings is booked for October 2020; we can say that, after that date, as soon as the Coronavirus will allow for unrestricted international travel, the production of the film will commence in Greece. The film will be shot in High Definition (4K) and in Hollywood standard, and it will highlight some of the most revered films of internationally acclaimed film author Bruno Pischiutta.

Pischiutta’s career spans over five decades. His acting performance in Francesco Rosi’s film, Many Wars Ago (Uomini contro), garnered him the Critics Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at the Venice Film Festival in 1972 when he was 19 years of age. He went on to write, direct, produce and edit, critically acclaimed feature films such as Compagne Nude, The Comoedia, Last Encounter in Venice, Life’s Charade, “Maybe…?”, and, amongst others, Punctured Hope.

In the 80s he was awarded at the New York International Film and Television Festival for his film The Comoedia, and formally invited by the Academy Awards® to present it for an Oscar consideration.

In the 90s he was, with Steven Spielberg and Bruno Bareto, one of the three directors formally invited to China by the Shanghai Film Studio to develop and produce films there. In the 2000s he was nominated by The Political Film Society in Hollywood in the categories of ‘Best Film Expose’ and ‘Best Film on Human Rights’ for his movie Punctured Hope, alongside Clint Eastwood (for Invictus), Quentin Tarantino (for Inglorious Basterds), and James Cameron (for Avatar).

“Everybody can judge a movie from what they see and hear, but there are sometimes certain circumstances, motivations and facts regarding a film that we have to know to fully understand its content. This documentary will show parts of several films I made, and it will explain the ‘why’, the ‘how’ and some relevant aspects related to those movies,” says the Maestro.

The first screenplay Pischiutta ever wrote signalled the director’s life-long affection for the sea; in Retrospective, the blue Aegean Sea becomes the backdrop of the story.

The footage of Pischiutta’s past films that will be used in Retrospective will bring the viewers to different locations and to different situations: to a very particular Venice, to New York of the 80s, to the Ghanaian rainforest, and to the Canadian Niagara Falls.

Several guests will appear in the film but the principal structural dialog will take place between Bruno Pischiutta and the Lithuanian actress Greta Goldling, both portraying themselves.

THE TEAM OF “RETROSPECTIVE”:

Actress Greta Goldling is an emerging movie Star who is from Lithuania but lives in London, England.

Greta Goldling will make her international debut in the documentary Retrospective (working title), appearing as herself. Goldling has already been cast to play an important role in the upcoming Hollywood standard feature film The Bad Joke, directed by Bruno Pischiutta and produced by Daria Trifu for Global Film Studio.

Greta is the ‘Image’ of the 2020 edition of the renown Global Nonviolent Film Festival, and is featured on the event’s official poster. She is also featured on the cover of the 2020 issue of the famed arts, entertainment & business magazine DARIA!.

Daria Trifu is the Producer. She will also appear as a guest in the film.

Daria Trifu, who works with Bruno Pischiutta from 20 years, is the Producer and Executive Producer of the the Academy Awards® qualified feature film Punctured Hope that was nominated as ‘Best Film Expose’ and ‘Best Film on Human Rights’ of 2009 by The Political Film Society in Hollywood, alongside Invictus, Avatar and Inglorious Basterds. Trifu had a key role in financing the $5.8 million picture. She also produced the feature documentary Brasov: Probably the Best City in the World and, in addition to her ‘producer’ credits, she is also the ‘Creator’ of an upcoming 13-episode TV Series to be produced by Global Film Studio, and is the writer of the original story of an upcoming major feature film tentatively named 906 Untitled. Daria Trifu is best known for producing films that are nonviolent and that are based on social issues of our time.

He is known for his work on Maybe, Easy Weekend, and the groundbreaking and critically acclaimed Punctured Hope, all films directed by Maestro Pischiutta.

Edward Button is an award winning Director of Photography based out of New York and Los Angeles. He is best known for his work on films such as American Made (starring Tom Cruise), Burn After Reading(starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt), Ten Thousand Saints(starring Ethan Hawke), and on the documentary The Big Fix(starring Peter Fonda).

Davide De Stefano is the Production Designer.

Davide De Stefano is a multi-award winning Production Designer who is based out of Rome and working both nationally and internationally on major film productions. He is best known for his work on Voice From the Stone (starring Emilia Clarke), The Cursed Ones(awarded the African Oscar at the African Movie Academy Awards), and Giallo (starring Adrien Brody). Among the many esteemed directors with whom Davide De Stefano has worked, we count Carlo Lizzani, Pupi Avati, and Dario Argento.

The music will be composed by Maestro Jay Jourden.

Jay “Blue Jay” Jourden is a world-renowned and award winning Music Producer and Vocal Artist who is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2019, he received the ‘Vocalist of the Year Award’ at the Josie Music Awards. Blue Jay is also an activist landing his music and his time to world causes that fight for peace and betterment of the human condition in the world. Jay Jourden heads the Music Department at Global Film Studio and is in charge of composing and producing the music for the company’s upcoming films and documentaries.

The film will highlight some of the most revered films of internationally acclaimed author Bruno Pischiutta.

The music will be composed by Maestro Jay Jourden and produced by Margo’ Buccini. Talks are ongoing for the great Italian art director Davide De Stefano (Voice From the Stone, The Cursed Ones, Giallo) to join as production designer.

From the business point of view, Global Film Studio is open to an association with a coproducer who will be interested in making a long-term financial investment and creative collaboration with the Company based on its operating principles.
